Sweet Redemption: Apple Pie in the Last Act
It’s my little dream coming true as Riley’s Farm Theatre Company presents our first full season in 2015.
Improvising and interacting with you on the farm has given me lots of unique little chances to atone for that rough show all those years ago. I still think about the open ocean when I’m onstage, but it feels more like I’m sailing toward something than drifting away from it. Adaptation really is a profound process.
Answering all your tough, clever questions at the interactive Sherlock Holmes murder mystery dinner is my pleasure. Waiting tensed backstage as you decide who your prime suspect is I wonder if you believed my stories, if you bought in, if you’ll place your bet on me. Playing pretend with you is a gift! Thank you for the moments you choose to spend with us, and the memories we make together.
I promised you pie-winning murder mystery-solving advice, didn’t I? I’m happy to pass on these two tips from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle:
“It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.” Don’t make your conclusions too early in the show. Watch for little details and keep an open mind until just before you have to choose a suspect.
“You have a grand gift for silence, Watson. It makes you quite invaluable as a companion.” Listen carefully to the conclusions of the quietest person at your table when it is time to decide who is guilty, for they often notice details that others miss. Team up with them and together you’ll find some truth.
Riley’s Farm Theatre Company presents Sherlock Holmes and the Sanguinary Siege of 221B at the Packing Shed beginning March 7, 2015. The game is afoot!
