Breaking Farm News: As you can probably surmise from pictures below, news is always breaking here on the farm — too many stories to keep up with.  You never know who will step up to you from around an apple tree with some horticultural tip or some hush, hush irrigation report.  I try to filter some of this, because I think it would put you all on information overload if I gave you all the details of a drip line emitter breaking or the number of times we’ve seen grown men biting dogs in the pumpkin patch. (We do allow dogs to bring their owners on a leash, as long as the owner is well-behaved.)

But there is a story that I’m going to check out tomorrow: we have an unconfirmed report that some of the apples are actually ready to harvest.  Yes, on rare occasions some apple varieties ripen in the summer and we’re going to check it out tomorrow, with pictures, live video, and possible celebrity interviews.

I don’t generally admit this, but on my morning walks I talk to the various wild creatures I encounter, which, lately seem to be exclusively in the rabbit family.  I think I understand Beatrix Potter on some level very well, because I don’t think you can see a rabbit without wondering what on earth these little two pound fur-spring combinations are thinking.  I mean — I nearly step on them.  Unlike any other wild creature around here, these little rascals actually seem to enjoy running the risk of getting run over by a 61 year old man, weighing WELL over 200 pounds.

Jim: No, sir, I’m not moving.  I just came up a hill.  I’m taking the LOWER side of the road.
Jinxy, the Rabbit: I just ate one of your strawberries.
Jim:  Good!  Now move or I’m stepping on you.
Jinxy: You are too fat and slow.
Jim: You should talk. You never seem to get any affection from that other little creature you’re chasing all the time.
Jinxy: Debbie?  I think she likes me.
Jim: It doesn’t LOOK like it.

Like I say, too much news to cover.
