ARSENIC AND OLD LACE  COMES TO RILEY’S FARM

Riley’s Farm Theatre Company presents Joseph Kesselring’s classic dark comedy this November in Oak Glen!

Riley’s Farm Theatre Company presents a beloved comedy classic as Arsenic and Old Lace comes to life in scenic Oak Glen this November 7th.  The players of the historic Packing Shed Theater on Riley’s Farm will offer a farm-fresh feast along with Joseph Kesselring’s full length stage play, which is directed by Eric Drazin (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow).

Arsenic and Old Lace –  a clever combination of the farcical and the macabre – centers on two elderly sisters who are famous in their Brooklyn neighborhood for their numerous acts of charity. Unfortunately, however, their charity includes poisoning lonely old men who come to their home looking for lodging. The two women are assisted in their crimes by their mentally challenged nephew who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and who frequently blasts a bugle and yells “charge” as he bounds up the stairs. Matters get complicated when a second nephew, a theater critic, discovers the murders and a third nephew appears after having just escaped from a mental institution. In his adroit mixture of comedy and mayhem, Kesselring satirizes the charitable impulse as he pokes fun at the conventions of the theater.

To kick off the evening of feasting and madcap fun, guests take their leisure with a spot of tea and Aunt Martha’s homemade tea cakes.  The dinner menu for Arsenic and Old Lace includes a savory roasted turkey breast, yams with a candied pecan topping, roasted broccoli and a fresh dinner roll.  Vegetable quiche is available as an alternate entree choice by advance request.  To top off the meal, Aunt Abby’s favorite chocolate mousse makes a delightful dessert.

Arsenic and Old Lace opens on Saturday, November 7th at the Packing Shed Theater on Riley’s Farm (12261 S. Oak Glen Road, Oak Glen, CA 92399), with performances on November 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21.  Saturday evening performances take place from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.  Friday evening performances take place from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM.  Doors open and appetizers are served 30 minutes prior to the event start time.  Tickets are available by calling (909) 790-8463 or via the web at rileysfarm.com   Saturday tickets for adults are $37 per person, and children’s tickets (age 3-12) are $32.  Friday tickets for adults are $35 per person, and children’s tickets (age 3-12) are $30. This event is not recommended for children under age three due to the length of the stage play, and parents who bring children should consider the show’s dark comedic subject matter before purchasing tickets.  Admission includes dinner, dessert, and a full length stage play in scenic Oak Glen.  Elderberry wine, hard ciders, ales and beer are available at an additional cost.  Reservations are required for this event.  Parking is free.
